Why I'm on the Editorial Board: Before rejoining the Tribune, I was the managing editor of The Cincinnati Enquirer during a time of racial strife in the city. I led a citizen's initiative to address the racial tensions, an effort that involved more than 2,000 people meeting in their homes, churches and schools. The experience showed me the power of a newspaper to connect people who want to make things happen. The editorial page offers that possibility every day.

Family: Married to Mark Stang, who writes baseball books. My mother and stepdad, Jean and George Kaylor, live in Town 'N Country; my sister, Beverly Werts, and her husband, Bill, live in Largo; and my brother, Jerry Goudreau, and his wife, Pam, and sons Christopher and Ryan live in Boca Raton.
